Our Chaplain, Fr. Matthew Fernan

On this Father's Day, we celebrate all fathers, particularly the spiritual leader of our Division, Chaplain Fr. Matthew Fernan. This year, we were blessed to welcome Fr. Fernan as our new Chaplain and his enthusiasm and guidance has made an immediate impact. Together with Brother Steve Murphy, he is leading our annual Commodore Berry Medal program that is awarded to students in Catholic Elementary Schools in The City of Yonkers.

Since 2015, Fr. Fernan has served as Pastor of The Church of Saint Eugene in Yonkers. Prior to that he served as Pastor of St. Matthew’s, Hastings-on-Hudson, and as administrator of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Ardsley. He was parochial vicar of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scarsdale, 2000-2004, and St. Benedict’s, the Bronx, 1989-1992. He served on the faculty of Cardinal Hayes High School, the Bronx, 1992-2000. Born in Jamaica, Queens, he studied for the priesthood at St. John Neumann Residence, the Bronx, and St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie. Fr. Fernan was ordained by Cardinal John O’Connor at a Mass in St. Patrick’s Cathedral on May 13, 1989.
